Aburakake Daikokuten
Our mountain is a temple, but there is a conspicuous red torii, it is just the symbol of the Shintoism, in the precincts.
This extremely rare Aburakake Daikokuten has been enshrined since before the construction of Sendai Daikannon, and has been worshiped by devout people.
There are several oral traditions about Daikokuten's origin.
The first is 500 years ago. When the young boy bought oil and rushed home, he accidentally hit the Daikokuten enshrined on the roadside with an oil pot.
The pot was broken and Daikoku was full of oil. No matter what kind of business the boy'a apprenticeship failures continued, and it was just unfortunate.
The boy returned home without money to buy new oil, but for some reason, the village headman where he worked was prospering. It is said that the boy also became very rich at some point and was happy to have a good and honest wife.
When the rumor spread, it is said that at some point, people started pouring oil on Daikokuten on the roadside in hopes of bringing good luck and a good match.
Another one is that a poor oil seller used to go to a neighboring village every day to sell oil for his products, and on the way back, he always offered a little manju and other items with the money he got from business by Daikoku-sama on the roadside, hoping for peace every day.
One day, the oil was not sold at all that day, and I came back without any manju to offer to the Daikoku-sama.
He said, "Daikoku-sama, I hve nothing to offer today, I'm sorry for the oil for sale, but please excuse me with this," and poured oil on the Daikoku-sama and went home.
The next day, he went out to sell the oil as usual, and the oil was sold out immediately.
The next time, the oil was also sold out immediately, and it was a great success every day. He thought that this must be thanks to Daikoku-sama, and from then on, he began to anoint and pray to Daikoku-sama.
It is said that he was blessed with good relationships one after another with business and people.
Another legend is this: A shabby-looking farmer was praying fervently in an old temple when a famous monk, Kobo Daishi, passed by.
When Kobo Daishi asked the farmer what he was praying for, the farmer sighed heavily, "No matter how hard I worked, my life would not be easier, and I was praying that I would save money."
Kobo Daishi nodded, gave the farmer a wooden end shaped like a Buddha, and left, saying, "If you pray morning and evening with oil, your wish will surely come true."
The farmer believed the monk's words and began to pray with oil, but first he had to buy expensive oil. He worked hard and eventually became a rich man known as the "'Abura-kake Daikoku millionaire."
In recent years, Daikokudo, which enshrines Aburakake Daikokuten, has become a famous matchmaking spot among young men and women as a god and Buddha for good marriage.
